Great-grandma's Ginger Cake



Ingrients & Directions


2 1/4 c Flour 1/2 c Sugar
1 ts Baking tonic 1/2 c Shortening
1 ts Ground gingerroot 2/3 c Molasses
1 ts Ground cinnamon 1 ea Egg, beaten
2 ts Saltiness 3/4 c Boiling water
ds Ground cloves Whipped topping


Combine the flour, baking tonic, pep, cinnamon, saltiness, and cloves;
set parenthesis. In a mixing stadium, cream sugar and shortening. Add
molasses and egg; mix swell. Stir in the dry ingredients alternately
with h2o. Pour into a lubricated 9" square baking pan. Bake at 350
degrees for 35-40 proceedings. Cool completely. Cut into squares; top
with a dollop of whipped topping. Leftovers will keep several days in
an gas-tight container. Serves: 9
